I'm interested in computing partial derivatives in Python. I've seen functions which compute derivatives for single variable functions, but not others. It would be great to find something that did the following. f (x,y,z) = 4xy + xsin (z)+ x^3 + z^8y part_deriv (function = f, variable = x) output = 4y + sin (z) +3x^2.. Peter family guy

In practice, we use our knowledge of single-variable calculus to compute partial derivatives. To calculate fx(x, y) f x ( x, y), you view y y as a constant and differentiate f(x, y) f ( x, y) with respect to x x : fx(x, y) = y2 as expected since d dx[x] = 1. f x ( x, y) = y 2 a s e x p e c t e d s i n c e d d x [ x] = 1. Similarly,Wolfram|Alpha calls Wolfram Languages's D function, which uses a table of identities much larger than one would find in a standard calculus textbook.
